Break HW: Post by Josephine Z 803

I read Josephine Z's post on Hatchet by Gary Paulson. She has a lot of good ideas about the book but it sounds like she just started it. I read Hatchet and really liked it, so I choose this blog post by Josephine because of the book, Hatchet.

As I read Josephine’s blog I realized things that I didn't realize in 6th grade, which is when I read the book. First, the author's intrusions (viewpoints) are found throughout the book. I didn't know about “intrusions” in 6th grade so I can't say I noticed them. As I read Josephine’s blog post it made me want to re-read parts of the book. So I did. I read the first few chapters which is what she was talking about and now I can agree to what she blogged about, the idea of action being different than thoughts. Especially when Brian thought he was going to die, but he landed the plane successfully.

I also agree with Josephine when she said that Brian was blaming his parents for where he is now. I agree with this because Brian always goes back to the divorce and uses it as an excuse whenever something goes wrong. When the divorce happened between his father and mother he couldn't trust either one of them, he felt vulnerable. Now in the forest, Brian has nowhere to go so he feels vulnerable too.

Josephine’s blog was long and detailed but it wasn’t finished. The blog stops mid way and she doesn’t finish her thoughts. I was reading it and her ideas were there, but she “fell off the cliff” when the last word was 'because'. She didn't state her reasoning. I would really like to hear/read what she had to say about the plane landing.

The only really bad part about the blog was the font. I could barely read it and had to copy and paste it in to word to read it. Other wise the bog was long and she has really good ideas about the book and I will be looking to read what she posts about the book next!!

Fat Kid Rules the World

The story is about how friends start a band and the journey of the friends through life and hard times. The part I am up to is when the two friends, Curt and Troy, are going to have their first gig. The main character, Troy, is really nervous about the gig because he can’t play the drums and has to keep up with a really fast guitarist in Curt. I think the 2 characters have a complicated relationship because at one point they could be really close and joking, but when they play music, Curt is really serious. The 2 sides of Curt is a big part in the story. Troy sometimes feels friends with Curt, but not so much other times. This affects their relationship between them because Troy doesn’t always trust Curt. In the band they practice almost everyday. This brings them together. As Troy is supposed to be the best drumist, he can’t keep up with Curt. So far I think this story is really good and I can’t wait to finish it. I hope that Troy doesn’t mess up at the gig.

This book is about a team of kid agents that go back in time to stop a disease from spreading. they have to go back to the U.S.S.R. They have to find a undercover agent, that is working in the KGB and saves them from torment. The undercover agent is trying to stop thew Cuban Missile Crisis. They kids that g back in time know that the Crisis doesn't happen so he tells them that he wont do the thing. Agent cobra saves them from the KGB, that took them off the streets in Russia. While the agent was under cover he saved them destroyed there arrest papers and brought them to his apartment. 


I said this is a social action post because, the book shows us the the police, the KGB, runs the country and not the government. i think this because the government wouldn't take kids off the street just because they were time travelers. how did the KGB even know this? I think the have secret files and have people all over the world. As i finished reading, Agent cobra assumes that the person that sent them on this mission was a KGB  member working undercover.


After all I like this book and would recommend it to anyone who would read it. it has a lot of action and weirdness and would have to read the first book in the series to understand it, but it is still one of my favorite books.

Spanking Shakespeare

I just ended amazing book. The book was about a high school senior and about what he did leading up to graduation and the things he wrote, he is a really good writer. The main character is a senior who goes through high school with friends that are really strange. His family consists of an alcoholic dad, a more popular little brother, and a mother that is a guidance councilor He is friends with Katie, Neil, and over time becomes friends with Charlotte, his girl friend in the end of the book. I am going to talk about how he gets by with the friends and family he has.

His mom and dad are completely different. The dad is an alcoholic that takes everything not seriously abut school. The mom is crazy about school and doesn’t want any joking around. The mom is a guidance councilor at a different high school and as Shakespeare is looking at colleges, the mom is more serious than ever. Shakespeare applies to a lot of colleges. He doesn’t get in to a lot of them mostly his back up schools. The parents make this a strange story because they have their twist on things and do unexpected things that I wouldn’t think parents should do. They allow the kids to smoke, only after caught though. The said that you can experiment but it has to be in the house because weed is illegal.

His brother, Gandhi, is a popular kid at school, even being a sophomore. The two brothers go to the same school. Gandhi has a girl friend that is close to the family and comes over a lot for dinner. Shakespeare always complains to his friends that his brother hangs out with people in their grade and how he gets more girls than him. Near the end of the book they get closer because of smoking, Shakespeare tells his parents at a dinner with their aunt while he is acting strange, “I’m high out of my mind right now.” He gets Gandhi's respect for doing that.

Neil and Katie, his oldest friends in high school are boyfriend and girl friend over time. They are both totally different though. Katie drinks a lot and Neil talks about bowel movements. Both of them are strange but can be very good friends at times.

Charlotte is a shy girl and isn’t at school a lot because she has to take care of her family. Her brother is a hassle to be with and needs a lot of attention. Her dad has been n and off of jobs because of his addictions. So she has to care for her family.

In conclusion this book is written by its characters and what they bring to the story. i don't think the story would be very exiting without the weird characters and changes of story lines.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

As I finished the book I realized things that don't happen in real life all the time. It ends by the family getting together again after Chris goes to live with his mother. When the family gets together Chris can't trust his dad because he lied to him for 15 years about his mom being dead. Also he cant trust him because he killed the neighbors dog. The dad lied to the son a lot and never really apologized. The book ends with the dad making a long speck about trusting him. The dad gets his trust i think by getting a dog for Christopher, and saying you can name it and walk it whenever you like. I think this gets Chris to trust him because after he killed a dog he is forgiving him with a dog of their own. This is also bribing i think because the dad is getting the son to trust him with presents.

I really liked this book because it is written from a perspective of a kid. I learned that he had problems interacting was because he was autistic. Another way I Learned he was autistic because he can do big math problems in his head.


All in all i think this story was really good and I would recommended it to everyone I know.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

I just started this book and so far it is a little bit strange. The main character Christopher, is a weird but interesting kid. He is 15 with a lot of things going on in his life. He doesn't have a lot of family, his mom is dead and most of his mother's side of the family is dead too. We learn this in the first couple of pages. He lives with his father. He loves dogs and has a lot of friends.

In the first real scene of the book, Chris is accused of killing a dog. This was one of his friends dogs and when the police come to the scene they ask Chris a lot of questions. It seems like he is a really smart kid because he knows all about math and science. But he has trouble interacting with others. In the book he doesn't talk much and the narrating is talking to himself in his head.

He is taken to a police station and asked more questions. His father is there after Chris is put in a cell. Another reason he is weird because he thinks the cell is cozy. He says it is about 2 by 2 by 2 meters. The officer gives him a caution on his files and will be watching him. If he does anything bad again he will be in a lot more trouble.

Memoirs of a teenage amnesiac social action

Right now in my book, the main character Naomi, just figured out that she got her memories back from when her "dove" down the stairs. This all lead up to her best friends not be her friend anymore. She tries to get them back after all of the things happened between them, but she starts to do bad in school. When she finally tells her best friend about her getting her memories back, Will already knew it somehow.

I think this a social action problem because it show the injuries of teens cane affect school and friendships. This problem I don't think comes often, but when it does it can affect your life. When you lose your memories, it can affect your school work because you might not remember the work you have to do and the classes and schedules.

It can affect your social life because if you forget names of people you love and people you hate. You restate life in school, learning and meeting new people, even if they already know you. You could get used to doing things that are new to you. Like driving if you can, this is a big lose for Naomi.

If this happened to me, I would be scared because i would lose everything resent. I would also listen to others and ask a lot of questions to get back on track. I would make a lot of observations because even if they were m y best friend it would be like i could get another side of a person, I don't think I know.

In conclusion, I think having amnesia would be hard as a teen because you could forget about friends and enemies, and classes and schedules. That is what I think about this book.
